Michigan boy to be taken off life support as mother fights to keep him alive

A local mother who is fighting to keep her son alive said life support will be removed Friday.

Bobby Reyes, 14, of Ash Township, was hospitalized at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor after a severe asthma attack in September. His mother, Sarah Jones, successfully fought to stop the hospital from taking her son off life support when doctors declared him brain-dead.

EEE fight

An update from a doctor and the mother of a 14-year-old Michigan girl with EEE demonstrated the devastating effects of the disease and how long it can take to recover.

Savanah DeHart, 14, of Portage, complained Aug. 16 of a severe headache and was acting dazed and lethargic, according to her mother, Kerri Dooley.

Family home shot

A family in Ypsilanti is exasperated with how police are handling the investigation following a shooting Wednesday.

Surveillance cameras in the area captured the drive-by shooting at a home on Jefferson Street near South Hamilton Street. Shots were fired from a white Ford Fusion at about 6:30 p.m.

Legionnaires' disease

The Macomb County Health Department and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are investigating several cases of Legionnaires' disease.

They believe the outbreak could have originated at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens.  Patients family members who have visited the facility recently are concerned.

Teens charged with murder

Two teenagers charged with murder in connection with a homicide case and two armed robbery cases in Dearborn appeared in court Thursday.

Jamel Marquise Philson, 17, of Highland Park, and Demaurio Dismuke, 14, of Detroit, were in court for their preliminary examinations.
