Man charged with killing father of 2 during argument in Roseville bar

A Clinton Township man has been charged with killing a father of two during an argument in the bathroom of a Roseville bar, officials said.

Roseville police officers were called around 12:40 a.m. Sunday to Dooley's bar near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and 14 Mile Road.

Police said they arrived to find Johnny Owczarski, 37, of Harrison Township, dead in the bathroom and Nolan Baca, 21, of Clinton Township, detained at gunpoint by a bar patron.

Murder-suicide

Port Huron police believe a 35-year-old man shot his 6-year-old son and himself Monday in an apparent murder-suicide.

Robert Lagrow, his wife and his son, Weston, had all lived in the home in the 3000 block of Cooper Avenue, but the couple was estranged due to marital problems.

Helping students cope

Students face many problems outside of the classroom that can make learning difficult.

The Resilient Schools Project at Lincoln Park Public Schools aims to help children who are dealing with trauma at home, including abuse, neglect, domestic violence, divorce and drug and alcohol abuse.

"The overall goal of the resilience school program is to create an environment in our school district that is safe and calming to meet the needs to all of our kids," said Nicole Chubb, the executive director of special education.

Child found unresponsive

A 6-year-old girl's death is under investigation after she was found unresponsive Tuesday in a Detroit home. Police received a call about 6:45 a.m. about a child not breathing at a home in the 10600 block of Lakepointe Street.

Police said the child's aunt, a 24-year-old woman, was laying down with the child when she noticed the child was not breathing.
