Benjamin Cobb, 4, was killed by a dog his family agreed to watch at their home near the intersection of Nine Mile and John R. roads.

Police officers from the Hazel Park Police Department are investigating.

“I feel sorry for the family,” said neighbor Vernon Hill.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said neighbor Tracy Johns. “No other words to describe it.”

Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Hazel Park police received a 911 call from a 14-year-old girl. She told them her 4-year-old brother was being attacked by a dog and her mother was desperately trying to stop it.

When officers arrived at the home, the dog was still attacking the child. Police said they used a taser on the dog to free Ben.

He died on the way to the hospital.

The dog was found by police and euthanized.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for funeral costs. Click here to visit the family’s GoFundMe page.
