She said she had woken up to see someone opening her bedroom door. She saw a man inside her home, called 911, ran outside and hid in the neighbor’s yard until deputies arrived, police said.

Deputies went to the backyard and found a broken glass sliding door that had had a rock thrown through it, according to officials.

When police were about to enter the home, they saw someone walking toward them from the far side of the basement, authorities said. He appeared to be heavily intoxicated and told deputies that he lived in the home, police said.

He was taken into custody and identified as a 16-year-old from Independence Township, officials said. A preliminary breath test revealed the boy had a .17 blood alcohol content.

Deputies said they learned the boy lived a couple houses away. They spoke with his parents, who thought their son had been in his bedroom, according to authorities.

The boy was released into the custody of his parents, police said. A juvenile petition has been forwarded for review, officials said.
