Police: Man dies after 911 caller says she shot him for strangling her at Pontiac home

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 23-year-old Pontiac man died Sunday after a woman called 911 saying she had shot the father of her child for strangling her and hitting her in the face, police said.

The 23-year-old Pontiac woman called police at 3:43 a.m. Sunday from a home in the 100 block of Cherry Hill Drive, according to authorities.

Police said the woman told them the father of her child had been strangling her and striking her in the face so she shot him in the abdomen.

The woman told police the man was lying on the floor but still breathing. Oakland County deputies met with the woman and detained her for further investigation, officials said.

The man was lying on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to authorities. He was unconscious but still breathing, officials said.

Paramedics took the man to McLaren-Oakland Hospital, where he died from his injury, medical officials said.

Deputies took the woman to the Pontiac Substation to be interviewed. She is being held at the Oakland County Jail, police said.

Authorities said they found a 3-year-old child in the home. The child was turned over to relatives at the scene, police said.

Officials continue to investigate. The case will be turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
