GARDEN CITY, Mich. – A man charged with attacking a woman while she brought dinner to her father at Garden City Hospital was sentenced Wednesday to a mental health care facility.
John Deliz is accused of attacking Andrea Murphy, 45, in June. Police said Deliz was in a bed and had an IV in his arm when he got up and punched Murphy in the face.
February 2018 attack
Deliz had previously been charged and released for time served in connection with the February 2018 assault of a 19-year-old woman inside Beaumont Hospital, according to authorities.

Deliz pleaded guilty in the case and was scheduled to be sentenced, but the court proceedings didn’t go as planned. Deliz incoherently babbled in the courtroom just days after he was evaluated by doctors and found competent.
The judge couldn’t get a word in over Deliz, who appeared to be in distress.
A few weeks prior, Deliz had been given a $0 bond and placed on a tether. The judge said Deliz didn’t charge the tether and he walked free. He was caught on video interacting with people in public, according to officials.
Sentencing in Garden City attack
Local 4 cameras were in court Wednesday as Deliz was sentenced in the Garden City case.
Murphy was also in the courtroom.
Deliz was sentenced to a mental health care facility, and Murphy was told there’s no time for a tether and no guarantee Deliz won’t walk out the front door.
She said she’s worried he’ll be able to walk out again and injure others.
