WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The next wave of store closures has begun for Kmart, with the owner announcing the closures of Metro Detroit’s last remaining stores.
The company, which also owns Sears, announced plans to close an additional 96 stores across the nation. The megastore’s Waterford Township location, which was set to be the last Metro Detroit location to remain open, is among those being closed.
Kmart announced its Warren location would close by the end of the year, too.
This leaves the Kmart in Marshall as the last Michigan location.
Over the last 15 years, Sears and Kmart have closed more than 3,500 stores — cutting approximately 250,000 jobs nationwide.
