Michigan Lottery: Woman wins $300K on Cashword scratch off ticket

LANSING, Mich. – A Mecosta County woman plans to spoil her grandson after winning $300,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Double Bonus Cashword instant game.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at the Citgo gas station, located at 301 South Cass Street in Morley.

“I scratched the ticket off and had five green words, but there wasn’t a prize for five green words in the legend,” said the 59-year-old winner. “I took it back up to the gas station and had the clerk scan it. He told me I’d have to take it to the Lottery.

“When I got back home, I looked the ticket over again and that’s when I realized I had missed the letter ‘Y’ and revealed an extra word to win $300,000. I felt so overwhelmed and couldn’t stop crying tears of joy!”

The player visited Lottery headquarters with her husband Tuesday to claim the big prize. With her winnings, she plans to spoil her grandson, donate to charity, and then save the remainder.

Players have won more than $19 million playing Double Bonus Cashword, which launched in April. Each $5 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $5 up to $300,000. More than $7 million in prizes remain, including one $300,000 top prize, three $10,000 prizes, and 17 $2,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.

In 2018, Lottery players won more than $1 billion playing instant games.
