Police from Sterling Heights, Warren, Shelby Township arrest 3 men after shots fired in apartment

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police from Sterling Heights, Warren and Shelby Township arrested three men after shots were fired in an apartment complex, according to authorities.

Shelby Township officers were called around 10 p.m. Monday to the Crystal Lake apartment complex near 23 Mile and Dequindre roads.

Officers said they heard multiple gunshots coming from a second-floor apartment in building B. They set up a perimeter and secured the area, officials said.

Members of the Sterling Heights and Warren police SWAT teams, as well as the Shelby Township TRU Team responded to the apartment complex.

Negotiators convinced three men to exit the apartment, police said. They were all taken into custody.

Officials said a rifle was found inside the apartment.

Curt Smith, 37, and Eddy Ayres, 34, have been charged with discharging firearms in or at a building. The third man has not been arraigned.

Detectives are still investigating the incident.
