Man on personal mobility scooter killed while improperly crossing Troy road, police say

Officials say man struck by Ford Taurus

TROY, Mich. – A man on a personal mobility scooter was killed Thursday while improperly crossing a road in Troy, police said.

The man was crossing John R Road near Isabell Drive around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to authorities. He was struck by a 2005 Ford Taurus, officials said.

He was not within a crosswalk while crossing the road, according to police.

Authorities took the man to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, medical officials said. He has not yet been identified.

Police said the driver of the Taurus was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to authorities.

John R Road was closed for about 2 1/2 hours while detectives investigated the crash.

Troy police continue to investigate.
