DETROIT – Two people died and one was injured after a home invasion in Detroit Monday, police say.

According to police, three people were inside the home on Santa Rosa when three men broke into it.

UPDATE: 1 fatally shot, intruder stabbed to death when 3 people break into Detroit home, police say

Police say one of the three people in the home at the time died, another suffered a graze wound and the third was not injured.

The intruders took off from the scene in a vehicle that was found at 7 Mile and San Juan after it crashed. Police say one of the intruders was found dead of stab wounds in the vehicle.

“We believe three people where inside the house at the time,” said Captain Derrick Maye of the Detroit Police Department. He noted that the three people fought back when the three men broke into the home on Detroit’s west side around 1 p.m. Monday.

“Upon forcing entry one person produced a gun and shot someone. One of the residents retaliated by stabbing that person,” Maye said. That’s when the men who broke in took off in a car.
