CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Clinton Township woman was killed over the weekend when her SUV drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a tow truck, officials said.
Clinton Township police were called at 4:39 p.m. Sunday to a crash scene on Groesbeck Highway, according to authorities.

Investigators said a Chevy Equinox driven by a 51-year-old Clinton Township woman was heading north on Groesbeck Highway, moving with the flow of traffic.
While in the left through lane of Groesbeck Highway, the SUV began to drift left into oncoming southbound traffic, according to officials.
The Equinox struck a flatbed tow truck head-on the southbound lanes, police said.
The driver of the tow truck tried to avoid the collision, but could not do so, according to authorities. When the tow truck came to rest after the crash, the driver stayed at the scene, officials said.
Emergency officials said the Clinton Township woman was unconscious when they arrived. She was extricated by firefighters and taken to McLaren Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to officials.
Police said it’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor for the tow truck driver, according to authorities.
Officials said Groesbeck Highway is in good condition and there were no intersections that could have impacted the crash in the area. The stretch of Groesbeck Highway where the crash occurred was straight and the speed limit is 50 mph, according to police.

Authorities said an unrelated drunken driving arrest was made when a vehicle tried to drive through the scene. The vehicle initially refused to stop, putting several officers in harm’s way, officials said. That driver was taken into custody and is being held at the Clinton Township Police Department.
