Michigan issues 1st recreational marijuana licenses

DETROIT – The state of Michigan has issued the first licenses to a business planning to grow and sell marijuana for recreational use. Ann Arbor-based Exclusive Brands already has medical marijuana operations. It received recreational licenses Tuesday. It wants to start selling marijuana to adults age 21 and over as soon as Dec. 1.

Clawson dance studio owner

A dance studio owner in Clawson was found guilty of sexually assaulting one of his teenage students over a two-year period. Police said the student was between 13 and 16 years old when he was abused in 2013 and 2014. Clawson police said Christopher Keen, 59, was charged with criminal sexual conduct for the alleged assault of a teen at his Kaleidoscope Studio for Performing Arts in Clawson and at his home in Birmingham. He was found guilty on all counts Tuesday.

Amazon has considered adding facial recognition technology to its Ring doorbell cameras, according to a letter to a U.S. senator defending its video-sharing partnerships with police.

Detroit trench collapse victim

Crews worked for several hours Monday to rescue a man who became trapped in a trench in the backyard of a Detroit home. Aaron White, 50, spoke about the incident at Ascension St. John Hospital. He said he was digging out a backyard to replace some pipe when the shovel came off the excavator. When they tried to pull it out of the hole, the dirt caved in and trapped White up to his chest.

Arrests made in death of student-athlete

Police said two people are in custody in connection with the Nov. 10 fatal shooting of a 20-year-old pregnant woman. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man are in custody. The investigation is still active, according to police.

Warren City Council

The new members of Warren City Council have vowed to undo a vote by former members to give themselves lifetime health care benefits. The finger pointing continued Tuesday after former members of the City Council voted themselves the perk on Sept. 10. Warren residents are being told nobody really knew about the vote for weeks.

’Cereal murder'

The brother of a Michigan man accused of spiking his wife’s cereal with heroin testified in court Tuesday, saying he believes his brother committed the crime. Jason Harris is charged with premeditated murder in connection with the death of Christy Ann-Thompson Harris.

Clawson Public Schools merger

Clawson Public Schools needs a solution to declining enrollment and is looking to a neighboring school district for a possible solution. The news of the possible future of Clawson schools spread quickly around the small town Tuesday.
