Pole collapses on car, trapping elderly couple after Clinton Township crash

DTE had to shut power off before 2 could be rescued

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A pole collapsed on a car after a crash Wednesday in Clinton Township, trapping an elderly couple.

A witness said the couple was leaving the Mobil gas station at the intersection of 15 Mile and Garfield roads when they crashed into the power pole. Police said the crash knocked down power lines and started a fire.

A bullhorn and drone were used to tell the couple to stay in the car until DTE could shut the power off.

The victims’ conditions are unknown. An officer on the scene said a woman who was a passenger “wasn’t doing very well” when she was taken away from the scene.
