Hurricane Milton expected on Florida’s Gulf Coast

TAMPA, Fla. – Hurricane Milton is forecasted to bring a major storm to Florida this week.

Thousands are being asked to evacuate areas in and around Tampa Bay and along Florida’s West Coast as the storm moves towards landfall.

Florida evacuation zones for Hurricane Milton

Charlotte County

  • Evacuation Order: Mandatory
  • Evacuation Info: As of October 7, 2024, Charlotte County Emergency Management has issued evacuation orders for residents in:
    • Red Zone-A
    • Orange Zone-B
    • All mobile and manufactured home residents in any zone

Citrus County

  • Evacuation Order: Mandatory
  • Evacuation Info: Mandatory evacuation starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, for residents in:
    • Campers
    • Tents
    • Mobile homes
    • Manufactured homes
    • Any structure not capable of withstanding sustained winds up to 110 MPH

Clay County

  • Evacuation Order: Information
  • Evacuation Info: No mandatory evacuation orders currently, but residents in:
    • Low-lying areas
    • Flood-prone areas
    • Areas along Black Creek or the St. Johns River
    • Strongly encouraged to relocate

Collier County

  • Evacuation Order: Mandatory
  • Evacuation Info:
    • A Voluntary Precautionary Evacuation is currently effective for Zones A and B (west of Airport Pulling Road and south of US-41 Tamiami Trail E). This includes:
      • Mobile home residents
      • Locations with a history of storm flooding
      • City of Marco Island, Everglades City, Goodland, Chokoloskee, and the City of Naples

Manatee County

  • Evacuation Info: Evacuations are in effect for all persons in Levels A, B, and C, and all residents or visitors in RVs or mobile homes. This begins at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 7, ahead of Hurricane Milton.

Marion County

  • Evacuation Order: Information
  • Evacuation Info: A mandatory evacuation is in effect for:
    • Residents living in mobile homes, RVs, modular-type homes, and site-built homes constructed before 1994

Miami-Dade County

  • Evacuation Order: Voluntary
  • Evacuation Info: Miami-Dade County has opened a voluntary evacuation center at the E. Darwin Fuchs Pavilion (10901 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33165) for mobile home residents who wish to evacuate. This pet-friendly center opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8.

  • Evacuation Info: Pasco County Government has issued a mandatory evacuation for Zone C due to Hurricane Milton. Life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force winds are expected. Evacuation applies if:

    • You live in a manufactured home, mobile home, or RV
    • You live in a low-lying or flood-prone area

Pinellas County

Sarasota County

  • Evacuation Info: (As of 10:36 a.m. Oct. 8) Sarasota County extended its evacuation order to Level C. This includes Levels A, B, C, and manufactured/mobile/boat homes.

St. Johns County

  • Evacuation Order: Mandatory
  • Evacuation Info: Effective 2:00 p.m., Oct. 8, 2024:
    • All persons in licensed facilities, assisted living, nursing homes, and ambulatory surgery centers in Evacuation Zones A, B, and parts of Zone F south of State Road 206 must evacuate.
    • Effective 8:00 a.m., Oct. 9, 2024: Evacuation extends to all persons in assisted living facilities and those living in boats, mobile homes, RVs, and campers in the same zones.
