Fred Wolski lives on the ninth floor of Taylor Towers, next to an apartment that went up in flames when a kitchen caught fire.
Wolski grabbed the man who lives in the apartment where the fire started and got him out of the building.
"I went in there because I was asked to by the owner of that apartment to go in there to help him," Wolski said. "He was on his knees already."
He returned to get the man's wife, but firefighters were able to rescue her.
"I got in about maybe 10 feet into the apartment, but I just couldn't go any further," Wolski said.
The woman and another resident were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Wolski said it was instinct to rescue his neighbor.
"Caring for one another," he said.
