Car ripped apart in 100 mph crash with light pole in Hamtramck

Driver taken to hospital in 'very serious condition'

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – The entire side of a car was ripped off Monday in a crash at Joseph Campau Avenue and Caniff Street in Hamtramck.

Police said a silver car was traveling on Caniff Street at 100 mph when the driver lost control and careened into a light pole. The side of the car was ripped off, and the car took out a tree.

The driver is a man in his mid-20s. He was taken to a nearby hospital in "very serious condition," Hamtramck police said.

Police said the intersection of Joseph Campau Avenue and Caniff Street will be closed for at least a few hours.
