Royal Oak police apologized Thursday after a viral video of an officer approaching a black man for allegedly looking at a white woman suspiciously caused outrage.

"He's an African American male, and I don't know what his deal is, but it's making me not feel very comfortable," the woman said in a 911 call.

Blake's Orchard and Cider Mill
A man from St. Clair Shores was taken into custody after being accused of making a terrorist threat Wednesday against Blake's Apple Orchard and Cider Mill in Armada.
The cider mill is a staple in Macomb County and has never had an issue until Wednesday. Police said Jonathan Keck, 29, became angry after being told to work on the plumbing of a urinal and threatened to shoot the place up.
UAW kickbacks investigation
The federal investigation into United Auto Workers union executive kickbacks and cash payments has grown again.
Mike Grimes is accused of wire fraud, money laundering and getting nearly $2 million in kickbacks. Investigators say he helped obtain contracts for a clothing/apparel company and chiropractor and then threatened them.
Back-to-school vaccinations
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has declared August "Immunization Awareness Month." Now some health officials and doctors are urging Michigan parents to put immunizations on their back-to-school checklists.
"Oh, vaccinations are incredibly important," said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. "Every year, we see far too many people who get sick and sometimes even die from vaccine-preventable diseases."
L. Brooks Patterson
A funeral service was held Thursday afternoon for longtime Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. Family, friends, constituents and even some political foes paid their last respects to Patterson.
Patterson announced in March that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He died Aug. 3 at his Independence Township home surrounded by family and friends.
