DETROIT – A 59-year-old security guard is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder after two people were shot Sunday evening in the parking lot of a grocery store in Detroit.

Cedric Lynn Windom, of Detroit, is accused of shooting a 44-year-old woman and her 46-year-old boyfriend, both of Detroit, at a grocery store near the intersection of Joy and Greenfield roads.

An argument started between the woman and the security guard. Witnesses said the woman told the security guard she was going to call her boyfriend.

"All I heard was them arguing at the grocery store," a witness said. "He was being disrespectful, and they had an exchange of words."

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Detroit police officers were dispatched about 6:05 p.m. on a call about a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the market. The woman left the store with her groceries. She spoke with her boyfriend, who then met her there. Officers found them with gunshot wounds. They were treated at a hospital and are expected to survive.

"After the discussion with the female victim inside the store, it is alleged that Windom followed both victims outside the store, pointed a firearm at the male victim and fired it, wounding him," reads a statement from the Prosecutor's Office. "It is further alleged that Windom then pointed the firearm at the female victim and fired it, wounding her."

Windom was arrested at the store. He faces two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and four counts of felony firearm.

He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 36th District Court and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 17, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Oct. 24.
