DETROIT – "White Boy" Rick Wershe was granted parole Friday after spending nearly 30 years in prison for a nonviolent drug offense when he was a teenager.

The 10-member parole board voted unanimously to grant the 47-year-old parole. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole when he was 17, and is the state of Michigan's longest serving nonviolent juvenile offender.
The earliest Wershe could be released from prison is in August.The Department of Corrections takes 30 days to make sure a parolee has a place to live and work.
