The Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness is investigating cases of hepatitis A related to two Grosse Pointe-area restaurants.
Uncle Paul’s Pizza at 21215 Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods and Cabbage Patch Café & Catering at 15110 Kercheval Avenue in Grosse Pointe Park have closed voluntarily and are working with the department during the investigation.

Those who ate at the restaurants between Aug. 1 and Sept. 29 are advised to watch for symptoms of Hepatitis A. They appear 15 to 50 days after exposure and can last for several weeks to several months.
Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dark urine, clay-colored stool, fever, chills and yellow skin and eyes.
To help prevent the spread of hepatitis A, always wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom or changing a diaper. Also, wash your hands during food preparation and before eating.
Additionally, avoid eating undercooked or raw shellfish, don't prepare food for others if you are sick and get a hepatitis A vaccine.
