PONTIAC, Mich. – Rebecca Bredow spent nearly a week in jail for refusing a judge's order to vaccinate her 9-year-old son.
UPDATE: Ferndale mother who was jailed for not vaccinating son loses primary custody
This past Wednesday the Ferndale woman was supposed to have the boy vaccinated, but he wasn't.
"I take full responsibility for my actions. I would like to offer my most humble apologies and I was not trying to disobey the court's orders," she told the judge.
Bredow wanted to turn the proceedings into a debate about vaccinating children. She and many others fear the vaccines cause greater harm than they prevent. However, Judge Karen McDonald made it clear a debate was not the reason they were in court.
"Mom agreed in a consent order dated Nov. 30, 2016 the child would be vaccinated," the judge said.
Bredow and James Horne are the parents. They had an annulment. The claim was they previously shared an anti-vaccination opinion, but Horne changed his mind.
The judge said the father gets a say.
"Ten months have gone by and mother has failed to comply with the order that she agreed to." said McDonald.
Bredow served six days in jail. She was released on Monday. She will be back in court Wednesday to see where the case goes next.
The question is did the father have the boy vaccinated like he said he would?
