MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Former Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger is facing legal trouble for allegedly attacking and stealing money from a 78-year-old woman for whom she was caring.
Police were called to the woman's home, and she told them her caretaker had pushed her to the ground, according to authorities.
The Warren Police Department dropped off warrant requests with the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine whether to issue the warrants against Spranger. The warrants will not be issued Thursday, officials said.
Officials said Spranger moved in with the woman in October, saying she was going to be her caretaker. Spranger has known the woman for years, police said.
This week, police received a call from the woman's financial institution, saying there had been some suspicious activity.
When authorities investigated the claim Tuesday, the woman said she had gotten into a confrontation with Spranger about a missing debit card. She said Spranger had pushed her to the ground during the dispute.
Officials said Spranger could face embezzlement and domestic violence charges.
