Grandmother shot after argument over gas at station on Detroit's west side

Woman shot after leaving gas station

DETROIT – It's a little difficult to make out who is involved in the video, but Detroit police are seeking the public's help.

The shooting was Thursday afternoon at the Valero gas station at Livernois and Joy Road. Video shows a blue car pull up next to the gas pump while a black Dodge Charger backs up to use the same pump. Both drivers got out of their vehicles and exchanged words. Then the passengers get involved.

Eventually the Charger's driver moves the car to a different pump. However, the passenger continues arguing. One of the people in the blue car pulled out a gun. The Charger took off.

What happened next was not caught on surveillance video. The cars crossed paths again and someone in the blue car shoots at the Charger.

Inside the Charger is the driver's 3-year-old child, his wife and his mother -- she's the one who was hit by gunfire.

"The perpetrator's vehicle sped up, approached them and produced a rifle and fired one shot which struck our adult female victim in the leg," said Detroit Police Cmdr. Nick Kyriacou.

The grandmother is in her 50s. They drove to the Detroit Police Department's 10th Precinct for help. Emergency personnel was called and she was rushed to a hospital. She is expected to be OK.

There is not a good description of the shooter.

Anyone with information on this shooting needs to contact Detroit police.
