Handgun recovered in fatal shooting at grad party in Roseville

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A handgun believed to have been used in a fatal shooting at a graduation party in Roseville over the weekend was recovered Monday, according to police.

Luke Filary, 18, of Clinton Township, was shot and killed at his cousin's graduation party early Sunday morning.

Police said a handgun believed to have been used in the incident was recovered from a home in St. Clair Shores.

The graduation party was held at a home near 12 Mile and Hayes roads.

Group leaves, returns

Roseville police said four people were asked to leave the party after they were involved in an argument. The group returned a while later and one person started shooting at the home. Filary was struck and rushed to a hospital where he died. 

"Really good guy," said friend Gelos Wright. "He doesn't deserve that. His family doesn't deserve that, at all."

Eastpointe man arrested

The 20-year-old man suspected of killing Filary is in custody. Roseville police arrested him less than 24 hours after the shooting. 

He's from Eastpointe and could be facing a judge as early as Monday. 

"I just don't understand what was going through their heads. I don't know ... I can't ever relate to that," said Catoni.
