WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital is without water and transferring patients to other health care facilities.

The hospital is impacted by a water main break in West Bloomfield which has prompted a boil water advisory in 12 Oakland County communities. 

A hospital spokesman said elective surgeries and procedures have been cancelled. Clinics are closed. A lack of water is affecting temperature control at the hospital, the spokesman said.          

Ambulances are being diverted to other emergency departments. 

Moreover, the following Henry Ford locations are impacted:

  • Henry Ford Medical Center – Columbus
  • Henry Ford Medical Center –Commerce
  • Henry Ford Medical Center - Farmington Road
  • Henry Ford Maplegrove

A statement from Henry Ford Health System Media Relations Director Brenda Craig notes all elective surgeries and procedures at the listed locations will be cancelled both Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Here's the full statement: 

The safety and well-being of our patients is our top priority. We are doing everything we can to maintain current operations as this situation continues.

We are contacting patients to reschedule appointments and elective procedures. Patients also are being seen at other Henry Ford locations. 

Elective surgeries and procedures are cancelled today, Oct. 24, and Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and its outpatient clinics.

Elective surgeries and procedures are cancelled today, Oct. 24 and Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Columbus, Commerce and Farmington Road medical centers. The Columbus, Commerce and Farmington Road medical centers are expected to re-open Wednesday, Oct. 25, for outpatient clinic visits. 

About 12 hospitalized patients (critical care, surgery, cardiac care and OB) at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital are in the process of being transferred to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. All other hospitalized patients at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital continue to receive care. 
The Emergency Department is accepting walk-ins at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, but is not accepting ambulance traffic.

Henry Ford Maplegrove is operating on bottled water for staff and patients. 

All other Henry Ford locations in the water break area remain open and are using bottled water.
