Here's your Labor Day weekend weather forecast for metro Detroit

Will Mother Nature cooperate?

No description found

DETROIT – As promised, it's been a warm, humid week and, as expected, widespread strong to severe thunderstorms raked most of our area yesterday (those of you in the farther south suburbs missed out on most of the action).

Today was still muggy, but not nearly as hot due to the cloud cover. While a few isolated showers or thunderstorms are still possible through early evening, anything that does pop up (IF anything pops up) will be significantly more sparse in coverage than what we saw yesterday.

Any evening showers or thunderstorms should diminish through the evening, and we should have a quiet night ahead…albeit continued warm and muggy…with lows near 70° (21° Celsius for my Canadian friends). Calm air overnight also means no breeze coming through the window for those of you without air conditioning.

Partly cloudy, hot and humid on Saturday, with just a few isolated thunderstorms possible mid-to-late afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 80s (30 to 31° Celsius). Southwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.

Becoming mostly clear Saturday night, with lows again near 70°.

Partly cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the upper 80s.

Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows in the low 70s.

Labor Day is the day I've been discussing with you all week long. Most of today's models hold off the approaching cold front until Monday night, but it's going to be a very close call. My gut feeling is that (unless the front speeds up) most of us will stay dry through the daylight hours. IF any thunderstorms pop-up (again, unless the front speeds up), I suspect that would happen near the I-69 corridor and north of there. If you have a big Labor Day barbecue planned, just keep an eye on the awesome customizable radar display on the free Local4Casters weather app (if you haven't already, you really need to download this onto your phone or tablet). Also, don't forget to follow the Local4Casters (@Local4Casters) and me (@PGLocal4) on Twitter for updates. Highs Monday in the upper 80s, and it's still going to be steamy.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely at some point Monday night, with lows in the low 70s.

We still have a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it shouldn't rain all day each day…there will be dry periods. Highs in the low 80s on Tuesday, and into the upper 70s on Wednesday. It appears that we'll stay in the 70s the rest of the week.

**Special note: Thinking about what kind of winter we'll have this year? Heard about that strong El Nino in the Pacific? Wondering if the El Nino will change our winter weather? (It should). Check out my article explaining what this El Nino is all about, and how it should change our weather this winter in my special article here.
