Hotline created for 'Logisticare' complaints; State investigating

The state of Michigan is looking into complaints lodged against Logisticare following Local 4's report of a 79-year-old cancer victim who was stranded by the Medicare transportation service.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has set up a complaint line to gather concerns expressed by many other LogistiCare clients who saw the report.

The company is working under a $60 million dollar taxpayer funded contract with the state to provide the elderly and poor with a ride to and from doctor's appointments.

Clients, clinics, and advocates for seniors told Local 4 that LogistiCare is chronically late, and complaints get no response.

State records show the service provided more than a half a million rides in 2015, with only .36% complaints.

Advocates said seniors don't know how to file formal complaints, or are often too sick and intimidated to wage one.
