DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) is caring for an injured mallard duck, who they named Daffy, after rescuing him from a 27-story building in downtown Detroit.
A concerned maintenance worker on Thursday called MHS after noticing the duck on the roof of the building at 211 W. Fort Street.

"The area on the roof had complete openings, so the duck could have easily fallen off or attempted to fly. So we had to make sure that he wasn't getting too close to the edge," said Elise Ramsey, MHS Cruelty Investigator. "We went up with the net and because he was a little bit slower due to his injury, we were able easy get him to safety."
Daffy Duck was transferred to the MHS Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care's wildlife department for further care and assessment. It was determined by MHS veterinarians that Daffy had a broken wing and is blind in one eye from a previous ulcer.
Daffy Duck will be transferred to Howell Nature Center for further care before being released back into the wild.
