DETROIT โ Findings from an investigation into a Farmington Hills family dog found dead in a Detroit park have been turned over to police.
The dog, Duchess, had been missing for a week before she was found dead in Rouge Park on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The dog appeared to have a bullet wound to the back of the head, according to Detroit General Services director Crystal Perkins. Investigators ordered a necropsy to determine the official cause of death.
โThis is an active investigation,โ Perkins said. โThe dog was microchipped, and the family did inform us that the dog ran away from their home in Farmington Hills about a week ago. We did not receive any reports of a missing dog or stray dog in this area.โ
Detroit Animal Care and Control has turned over findings related to the investigation to the Detroit Police Department.
According to Detroit police, the case โis still an active investigation being handled by the Detroit Animal Control and Detroit Police Department. No further information is available at this time.โ
