MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Macomb County alleging a civil conspiracy against her and a violation of her civil rights.
The suit alleges that county officials interfered with her duties as clerk and hindered her ability to appoint and hire employees.

The Macomb County Clerk’s Office has been short-staffed and Spranger recently told the Board of Commissioners that she hasn’t hired or trained anyone since the Law Enforement Information Network officer in charge retired. Thousands of records continue to collect dust, leaving officers in the dark and potentially putting lives at risk.
The suit also alleges that county officials and members of the media engaged in a civil conspiracy against her, and that the media has reported false and misleading information regarding her offices, including WDIV.
The management of WDIV-TV released the following statement in response to the lawsuit:
WDIV denies any allegations of wrongdoing against its reporters and will continue, as always, to cover issues of importance to our community.
Spranger has recently filed suits against Google for issues regarding her residence and another suit against Macomb County to allow firearms in government buildings.
