Foot traffic restored to Harsens Island after dock collapses

Vehicles are unable to get to or from the island

CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The only dock for the Harsens Island ferry collapsed Wednesday and left people stranded on the island.

There was also an arcing power line blocking access to get to the ferry on foot. DTE crews were on site working to fix the downed power line issue.

The power line was brought down when a crane struck it. The dock completely collapsed.

Some of those stranded on the mainland were children trying to get home from school.

Pedestrian traffic can now travel to and from the island, behicles were still stuck as they wait for the ferry service to be restored.
