Man, 8-year-old boy shot on Detroit’s east side

Suspect drove away in unknown direction

DETROIT – Police said an 8-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man were shot on Detroit’s east side at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

It happened in the parking lot of the Belmont Shopping Center in the area of 8 Mile Road and Dequindre, according to officials.

Both are hospitalized but neither injury is believed to be life threatening, according to police.

Police said the 28-year-old victim was pulling out of the parking lot, driving a GMC Arcadia, when an unknown male suspect in a gold sedan pulled up and fired multiple shots into his vehicle, according to police. The 8-year-old boy was a passenger in the victim’s vehicle and was also struck.

A 31-year-old passenger of the GMC Arcadia allegedly got into a verbal argument with the suspect, according to police. After the shooting the suspect drove away in an unknown direction.

The 8-year-old is listed in stable condition, according to police. The 28-year-old is listed in temporary serious condition.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20′s with a dark complexion and small dreads. Police are still investigating.
