DETROIT – A man lept from an overpass onto the Lodge Freeway on Detroit’s west side Sunday to escape someone shooting at him.
Witnesses said it stemmed from a car chase that ended at a Michigan left on Seven Mile Road, where the man jumped off the bridge and onto the freeway.
The victim, a 23-year-old man, is in temporary serious condition.
Police first received a call at about 4:30 p.m. about what was believed to be a suicide in progress, but it was actually a man trying to get away from someone in a black Jeep who was shooting at him.
Police said the man was driving a gray Pontiac Torrent to get away from the Jeep, but his vehicle crashed near the southbound side of the freeway. The man lept onto the freeway and was still able to run after the drop down.
Police closed down the southbound side of the Lodge Freeway, as they investigated and retrieved a bullet found on the ground.
No other injuries were reported.
Police are still looking for those in that Jeep Cherokee responsible for firing shots. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
