FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A driver was killed Wednesday morning when a vehicle drove off of eastbound I-696 near M-5 and struck a bridge abutment, Michigan State Police said.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. on eastbound I-696 in Farmington Hills. Police believe this was a single-car crash. The vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck the bridge.

The interstate was shut down at M-5 in Farmington Hills. It has since reopened to traffic.
State police said they are still investigating the cause of the crash and working to identify the victim. Next of kin had not been identified, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
