DETROIT – Police searched a lot just south of the I-96 and I-94 interchange Thursday morning to look for answer in what could be another freeway shooting.
Police responded to the scene, located off Tillman Street and Warren Avenue, just after 10 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported gunshots.
When police arrived, they found a blue Toyota FJ Cruiser parked just off the interstate with bullet holes in the passenger side door and rear windows. The body of the driver was still behind the wheel.
Police only described the victim as a white man who had been shot to death.
It’s unclear if the driver was on the highway and pulled off before dying, but police said it’s possible the incident is another freeway shooting, which would bring Metro Detroit’s total to nearly two dozen since June.
Police said the neighborhood is typically quiet for them, although one neighbor said there’s been more commotion than normal leading into the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
