I-94 driver killed after missing exit, crashing into guard rail at Southfield Freeway

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – A Lincoln Park resident has died after their vehicle crashed into a guard rail while attempting to exit I-94 at Southfield Freeway early Thursday morning.

According to Michigan State Police, at about 4:35 a.m., a 48-year-old Lincoln Park resident was driving westbound on I-94 at a high rate of speed when he attempted to exit at Southfield Freeway. The driver reportedly missed the exit and drove off of the road to the right and crashed into a guard rail.

Police say the vehicle vaulted into the air after colliding with the guard rail, landed on the ground and rolled, though it is unknown how far.

The driver was reportedly found dead at the scene when troopers arrived.

This is an ongoing investigation.
