DETROIT – A driver reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a Detroit police car on the city’s west side late Friday morning.

According to Detroit police, at around noon Friday a driver traveling eastbound on the I-96 Service Road ran a red light and crashed into a police vehicle traveling southbound on Livernois.

The two police officers in the vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Officials say the female driver of the suspect vehicle was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but appeared to be OK.

Detroit police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

No further details have been shared at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
