DETROIT – Derek Austin, his girlfriend and her two children had a wonderful night on Wednesday at Comerica Park. But when they left the Detroit Tigers game, they found a window on their SUV shattered.
“You can clearly see where they hit with the crowbar and smashed the window,” Austin said.
Four other vehicles had been vandalized and two others were stolen. They were all parked in the gated and fenced Olympia parking lot.
“You go to the games and buy tickets in those specific lots because there will be security there,” he said.
He saw none when he parked Wednesday night but didn’t really think anything of it, and there was none when he returned to find the SUV with the smashed window. Frustrated fans called the Detroit Police Department and Olympia security.
Austin filed a police report for his girlfriend’s stolen purse, laptop, cash, and Apple watch.
Olympia Parking issued a statement, saying:
“The safety of our guests at our venues and parking facilities is always our top priority. Our parking lots are fenced, well-lit and under surveillance 24 hours a day. There are also security patrols at our lots and venues. In this matter, the Detroit Police Department was immediately contacted, provided with information and we continue to cooperate in their investigation.”
