Free tree alert: Giveaways to be held Saturday and Tuesday in Detroit

Experts to be on site to help guests choose appropriate tree for planting location

If you’re still looking for something to do this weekend, consider snagging yourself a free tree.

The Greening of Detroit, along with the Arbor Foundation and Life Remodeled have made available 250 trees that will be free for pickup Saturday on a first come, first serve basis.

The following trees will be available:

  • American Hornbeam
  • Autumn Blaze Maple
  • October Glory Maple
  • Overcup Oak
  • Shumard Oak

The trees will come in 3 gallon pots and will include instructions on how to plan them.

Greening of Detroit experts will also be on site to help guests choose the appropriate tree for their planting location.

The giveaway will be held at the Greening of Detroit office at 13000 West McNichols Road in Detroit from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will be another giveaway Tuesday at the Durfee Innovation Society at 2470 Collingwood Street in Detroit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
