CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Clinton Township has a new top cop and it is a real first. Chief Dina Caringi is now the township’s first female police chief. Decades of hard work helped get her to this point.
There’s a whole lot of history right here in the Clinton Township Police Department and now a new chapter is about to be written unlike any other before.
“Having grown up in this department, 21-years I’ve worked here, I couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity,” said Caringi.
Caringi has held just about every role you can imagine from patrol cop to undercover narcotics agent, to leading the detective bureau and running a patrol operations shift.
“Sometimes to take yourself out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself with different jobs, gives you an opportunity to really learn what this department is all about in all the capacities,” she said.
Now she’s preparing to be the first woman to hold the title of police chief in her hometown.
“You think I’m gonna be the chief of police in this community. It’s overwhelming to me right now,” she said.
The previous Clinton Township police chief, Fred Posavetz, died from complications related to COVID-19 in March. He gave 41-years of service to the community.

Since he passed away a new interim chief has been leading the department.
When Caringi takes over in November, one of her big goals will be community outreach.
She’ll be officially sworn in as new police chief November 4.
