Bello Woods Golf Course increases security after being repeatedly hit by vandals, thieves

High-end golf carts stolen

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A family-owned golf course in Macomb has increased security after being repeatedly hit by vandals and thieves.

Bello Woods Golf Course co-owner Janet Schrade has been in charge of the 52-year-old family golf course for quite some time.

Schrade said vandals broke into one of the outhouses in March and caused around $4,000 in damage with a type of metal pole. She said she’s never had to deal with vandalism this bad before.

“They just banged the doors in and broke all the fixtures. That’s where it started,” Schrade said.

Then equipment started to go missing in October and November.

“The folks who do come here and golf, they love it here. So, I really don’t understand how they can do this kind of stuff,” manager Kathleen Cracchiolo said.

Schrade said two golf carts are also missing. They are high-end golf carts that cost $3,000 and $4,000. The theft has created a major setback for the facility.

“We’re talking probably a total between these three things $12,000,” Schrade said.

Even with all the setbacks they’ve faced, the main the Schrade and Cracchiolo want is peace of mind.

“We’d love if they could even come clean or just stop doing it. Maybe even bring the carts back,” Cracchiolo said.

Schrade said she doesn’t believe the vandalism and theft is being done because someone is upset with the business. She believes it may be people who have recently moved to the community.

“Just consider how hard we work and I wouldn’t come over and do anything to your property. So, leave my property here the way you found it,” Schrade said.
