DETROIT – Police believe a driver was drunk early Tuesday morning when he crashed his car into the median of I-96 in Detroit, they said.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday (March 15) on westbound I-96 near Grand River Avenue, according to authorities.
Officials said a 40-year-old Detroit man was driving a Dodge Caliber when he struck the median. A passenger got out of the car and fled the scene, but the driver remained inside with serious injuries, police said.
Authorities said it was “obvious” that the driver was impaired.
He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital with a broken ankle, bruised ribs and lungs, and facial lacerations, police said.
A blood draw was performed and results are pending, according to authorities.
Police continue to investigate.
