DETROIT – A 1-year-old child has been recovered after being in the backseat of a vehicle when it was stolen in Detroit.
The child’s mother left the car running in the area of 7 Mile and Greenfield roads on Detroit’s west side while she went into a store.
Someone stole her car with the child inside. After driving a couple of blocks, the thief let the child out of the car and fled the scene.
Someone found the child alone near a busy street and found his mother.
“He came running up the street with my baby,” the mother said. “I’m so happy because I thought something had happened to my kid. I was just happy that he’s OK.”
The suspect is at large. The vehicle is described as a blue Hyundai with tinted windows.
Police are investigating.
