Mother in custody after 2-year-old boy stabbed in chest, Detroit police say

Child expected to be OK

DETROIT – A 2-year-old was stabbed in the chest and his mom is in custody, according to the Detroit Police Department.

Police said the incident happened Saturday (April 2) morning. Police said their investigation shows the mother drove to the child’s father’s home on Pierson Street. The father took the little boy to the hospital.

It’s early in the investigation, but Commander Arnold Williams of DPD’s sixth precinct said the evidence is pointing to the mother as the primary suspect.

“She did give us a story that it was her boyfriend that did it, but the boyfriend was at his home asleep,” Williams said. “He has cameras around his house. So at this time, we believe that the mother was responsible for this violence against her own child.”

It’s still unclear where the stabbing happened, but there is a possibility it happened in the car.

Police said the child is expected to be OK.
