TROY, Mich. – A man who chased some acquaintances with a hatchet outside of a Troy gym told police that he was looking for someone who had threatened him, and he accidentally targeted the wrong person.
Police said they were called at 5 p.m. March 29 to the Lifetime Fitness at 4700 Investment Drive.

Some residents told officers that a person they knew from school had chased them with a hatchet after they parked next to him in the parking lot of the gym.
Police said the man used his vehicle to block the others in and ran around their car brandishing a hatchet. He struck their rear passenger side window with the hatchet, causing damage, according to authorities.
The victims said they fled the scene and waited for police to arrive.
Officers found the man with the hatchet driving north on Crooks Road at Long Lake Road and pulled him over, they said. He admitted to having a hatchet in the vehicle as police put him in handcuffs, according to officials.
Police said the driver told them he was looking for someone who had threatened him, but he had the wrong person.
He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up facility on charges of felonious assault and malicious destruction of property.
