Westbound I-696 back open at I-275 in Oakland County after downed power lines caused closure

NOVI, Mich. – Westbound I-696 at I-275 is back open in Oakland County while DTE Energy got downed power lines off the road.

All lanes were blocked before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The lanes were back open before 3 p.m.

Michigan State Police said an excavator driver near Meadowbrook Road in Novi struck an overhead powerline, causing it to snap in the middle. It partially blocked the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-696.
