18-year-old killed, 1 hurt when Audi crosses into oncoming traffic, causing crash in Macomb County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An 18-year-old was killed and another driver was injured when an Audi crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a crash in Macomb County, officials said.

The crash happened at 5:13 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 25) on Cass Avenue, near Halsey Boulevard in Clinton Township.

Police said a gray 2018 Audi driven by an 18-year-old Shelby Township man was heading east on Cass Avenue when the driver lost control and crossed the center lane.

The Audi went into oncoming traffic and was struck by a black 2015 Ford Taurus that was in the left lane of westbound traffic, according to authorities.

Officials said the crash happened on a straight stretch of Cass Avenue, where the speed limit is 50 mph. The road has two lanes heading in each direction, as well as a dedicated left turn lane in the middle.

The 18-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Taurus was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
