Monroe County man arrested after targeted shooting in Van Buren Township sends 1 to hospital

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Monroe County man was arrested in connection with a targeted shooting in Van Buren Township that sent one person to the hospital early Monday morning.

Police were called around 6:45 a.m. Monday (Jan. 30) to the area of Rawsonville Road and South Grove Street for a report of someone firing shots in a car.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old Van Buren Township man sitting inside a vehicle. He had been shot multiple times, they said.

The man was treated and taken to a nearby hospital, where he is stable.

A 35-year-old man from Monroe County was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting, according to authorities.

Officials said the two men knew each other, and the 31-year-old was specifically targeted. There is not believed to be any threat to the public.

The Monroe County man is being held at the Van Buren Township Police Department as Wayne County prosecutors review the case.
