MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – A semi truck driver lost control of the vehicle while rounding a corner on I-696 in Madison Heights Tuesday morning, officials report.
At about 11:25 a.m. on Jan. 31, the driver of a semi truck was rounding a corner on eastbound I-696 near Dequindre Road when the truck’s load shifted to the left. The semi truck overturned, blocking three lanes on the eastbound side.

Michigan State Police say the truck leaked oil onto the freeway amid the crash.
The freeway closed at Dequindre Road shortly after the incident. Police said at 1:34 p.m. Tuesday that a clean-up crew was on the way.
It was unknown how long the freeway would remain closed.
Police said the semi truck drive sustained a “possible broken arm” in the crash, but no other injuries were reported. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, either.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area for the time being.
